I've been amazed with butterflies my entire life. There is something extraordinary about them. Going from an almost invisible egg to a caterpillar, to seeing their still chrysalis hang. Then like magic, out pop these delicate, intricate, perfectly patterned wings. Such delicate beings. They are fragile, weightless, breakable. Yet extremely powerful.
The more time I spend photographing them, the more I realize: their delicacy is their strength. Their softness is what slows you down. Their quietness is what pulls you back into yourself.
Butterflies have become symbols for so many people. Symbols of transformation, hope. resilience, and even messages from loved ones who have passed. There's something almost spiritual about the way they move through the world. They are light. They are free.
Maybe that’s why I'm so drawn to them. Many of us are. Maybe that’s why a single butterfly can stop us in our tracks.
For some, butterflies represent new beginnings...courage, hope, new life. Perhaps to shed old layers and step into something brighter. For others. they are reminders of presence...tiny signs that someone they miss is still near. For many, they symbolize the beauty of change, the quiet unfolding of who we are becoming.
When I photographed this yellow‑and‑black rice paper butterfly, I felt all of that at once. The way it rested so gently, the way its wings caught the light, the way the world seemed to pause around it. It felt like a gift. A moment meant to be noticed.
We are so fortunate to live in a world with butterflies. A world where something so fragile can carry so much meaning. A world where delicate wings can remind us of strength, softness, and the quiet beauty that still exists all around us.
Their presence is a whisper: Slow down. Look closer. There is wonder here.
And I think that’s why they stay with us in photographs, in memories, in gardens, in stories. They remind us that even the smallest things can change us. Even the lightest wings can lift us. Even the briefest moments can bring us back to ourselves.
If you stop and notice, the butterfly will invite you back.
Back to noticing. Back to breathing. Back to the quiet part of life that still exists even when everything else feels loud.
We forget how much wonder is still here. We forget how much beauty is still trying to reach us. We forget how good it feels to stop, even for a second, and let something simple soften us.
This isn’t just a photograph. It’s a moment of stillness in a world that keeps rushing you. It’s a way back to yourself.
