I create Art. I write lots of words.
There is a beautiful connection between the two.
They say a picture tells a thousand words. And yes, it definitely can. Many forms of art speak for themself. Yet at the same time, words are very powerful.
There’s a quiet thread that runs between art and words — so fine you almost can’t see it, Yet it's there in the stories. It's there in the pause. It's there in the thoughts in-between.
Creating always begins in the same place: with noticing.
I pick up my camera because there is something that I noticed. I pick up a pen or sit behind my computer to type, because there is something I noticed, or thought of.
Life needs to be about noticing. Without noticing, our days pass us by even faster than they already seem to do.
I 'see' magical things with my camera, yet I 'listen' to the words in my mind. Reminding me that beauty isn’t something we create or chase, but something we receive when we finally stop rushing.
Sometimes I think that’s the purpose of art and words... to call us home to ourselves.
A photograph can hold silence in a way language never can.
A sentence can express emotion that an image alone can’t name.
But between them runs a shared rhythm — the rhythm of attention, of patience, of wonder.
When I take a photograph, I’m speaking in light.
When I write, I’m speaking in breath.
And both, somehow, say the same thing:
Look closer. Slow down. There is beauty here.
Maybe that’s the thread I’ve always been following... the one that ties together the small, sacred act of seeing with the simple joy of saying, “This is enough.”
Whether I’m behind the lens or sitting quietly with a notebook, I’m learning that art and words don’t just describe life — they become it.
Both invite us to pay attention.
Both remind us that meaning is already woven through our days, waiting patiently to be seen.
And maybe that’s the essence of it all — that beauty doesn’t ask us to do more.
It only asks us to be still long enough to notice.
After a really big decision about combining my blog onto my photography site, this realization was all I needed. It was something that I realized a long time ago yet for some reason, I still held the two apart.
It was the design I created on my blog I loved and did not want to let go. It was the thought maybe my art viewers would not care about all I had to say in words.
I learned that is the farthest thing from the truth. Everything I create is woven together. One goes with the other seemly.
That beautiful, invisible thread that holds the two together.
This is for you. This blog, my shared thoughts. The art I put out. I've been at this for a long time, yet truthfully, I feel this is only the beginning.
I can't wait to see where this will lead.
We'll talk soon...
