Sitting With the Highland Cattle

Sitting With the Highland Cattle

Personally, I think highland Cattle are some of the cutest creatures that roam our earth. It was not until after booking our trip to the magnificent Faroe Islands that I learned these cattle found a home on the islands. Knowing that, it became my mission to capture them.

Driving around the islands, it was over a week in and still no cattle. Then we went to Mykines Island, and there, finally, we saw our first few cattle, yet they were far off in a barn and I knew right away I would not get the image I was after. So after happily viewing them, just because of their sheer cuteness, I left Mykines Island empty handed.

A week left on the islands and I felt I was loosing hope in finding these guys until there upon a (lower) cliff off the side of the road...Highland Cattle! Yet the sun was harsh and as hard as I tried it was not the best place to grab their shot. Still I took a few pictures, enjoyed their adorable faces and off we went to our next stop.

Yet then it happened. A few days before we had to head home we came across these beautiful creatures once again, this time on the other side of the road, this time on the coast, still upon grassy plains, cliffs towering down into the open ocean. The sun was still strong, yet it was later in the day so it was not as harsh as days before. The wind was strong yet worked perfectly with these cattle's messy, crazy manes. Their golden brown fur blowing in every direction imaginable.

A jolly man who seemed well traveled saw me photographing these cattle from the side of the road. He came up to me and started talking about the cows and mentioned how they are the gentlest, most docile creatures. 'Really'? I questioned him. I mean they are just cows...I guess it was the horns that threw me off for I did not realize that, but of course, I was all in.

I thanked the man as he went on his way as I then squeezed in between the guard rails, exposing myself to these grand creatures fully. I stood there in amazement. The cows did not move. They just continued doing what they were doing. Which was pretty much eating grass, laying out in the sunshine and of course, chewing.... Their golden brown fur, warm in the golden glow of sunshine. Their manes messily tousled from the fierce Farose winds. I sat down alongside these creatures forever.

I was so comfortable with these fuzzy guys I even grabbed my boys and they both had the chance to come see these magnificent animals. Of course, I shot away, grabbing some really beautiful and adorable images. Finally grabbing the image I was exactly after. That image has become one of my best sellers. A Highland Cattle in her true essence.

My experience with these guys was magical and something I will always remember. Yet in truth, this image is not just a picture of a Highland Cow to me, or the fact I got the shot I was after. It is a constant reminder that and it clearly goes to show, we are the creator of our own life. The thoughts and things we want out of life, if we put that into the Universe and believe in our self enough, putting our self in the right place, in the right environment, more then likely what is meant for us will come.

I hope this image can inspire you to feel that way too. Chase what you are after. No one else can do it for you.

You can check out this best selling image here if you'd like. Perhaps you can transform a room of your own with this guy hanging boldly on your own wall, as a constant reminder of this truth for yourself.  :)

Until next time...
